About M4V, and why convert to MP3
M4V is Apple’s video container, used by iTunes and the Apple ecosystem. Under the hood it is nearly identical to MP4 — usually H.264 video with AAC audio — just with an Apple name on it.
The usual reason is the same as MP4 to MP3: you want the audio from a video — a song, a lecture, a show — as a small file that plays anywhere, without the video track.
Quality guidance for this conversion
Same rule as any audio extraction: 192 kbps for music, 128 kbps for speech. The source audio is AAC, so re-encoding to MP3 loses a touch; 192 kbps keeps that loss inaudible for music, and 320 kbps only inflates the file without adding quality.

What is the difference between M4V and MP4?
