About AVI, and why convert to MP4
AVI is Microsoft’s container from 1992, home of DivX and Xvid codecs from the download era. It still turns up in old camcorder footage, archives and downloads — and modern phones, browsers and editors have mostly stopped supporting it.
An AVI that will not play on your phone or in your editor becomes an MP4 that plays everywhere, and usually a far smaller file too: those old codecs were not nearly as efficient as H.264.
